Overview

Sondai Fort Trek isn't a popular fort. Sondai is 9 kilometres from Karjat. It provides a stunning perspective of Morbe Dam, Prabalgad, Irshalgad, Rajmachi, Songiri forts, and the Matheran mountain range. Sondai served as a watchtower. Sondewadi and Wavarle are the base villages for Sondai Fort. Sondewadi village is located at one-fourth the height of this fortress. There are two water cisterns, and steps cut out of rocks lead to the uppermost peak, where a statue of Sondai Devi stands. Two more cisterns with potable water are on their way. Waverle is another settlement from which a difficult path to the fort leads through dense forest. The summit perspective provides a wonderful view of Matheran Mountain.
